Helping Hands

At Atlantic Southern Paving we take pride not only in our work for our clients, but also in our work for others. Most recently, we went with The Home Depot to help them on their Habitat for Humanity Project. They were partnered with Sea Island Habitat for Humanity (SIHFH) for their 2012 Community Building Invitational, which took place in the beautiful Johns Island, South Carolina. Sea Island Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1978 and built only one house in its first year. It took $2,500 just to do that! By 2010, they built 275 in Johns Island and the surrounding areas.

For many of these folks, this is their first time owning a house, but it doesn't come cheap. They are required to make a down-payment, contribute 500 hours of "sweat equity" and pay for thier brand new home through a 30 year, 0 interest mortgage. Atlantic Southern Paving was more than willing to help these folks and had a great time doing it!

Meet Our Newest Team Member!

Atltantic Southern Paving and Sealcoating has been very busy these last few months. Not only have we had more jobs come in from clients, but we have also hired two new members to add to the team. We are happy to announce our new hire Rafael Contreras Jr, who will become a part of our sales division. With over 6 years of experience as a General Contractor and over 10 years of sales experience, we are excited to see him bring all his knowledge to help our company grow. “We are looking forward to see Rafael in action and how he can pass along his wisdom to the rest of our team,” states Terry Smith, Director of Operations. “With all of his combined experience working with estimating, construction, and sales, we are sure he will be an invaluable asset to our company.”

Keep your eyes out for the next bunch of new hires, as I am sure they are almost here! 

 

Social Madness!!

We are happy to report Atlantic Southern Paving & Sealcoating made it through the qualifying stage of Social Madness, and Round One has started!

Bet You Didn't Know - About Roads

A little fun fact for you about the roads…

Did You Know: The first indications of constructed roads date from about 4000 BC and consist of stone paved streets at Ur in modern-day Iraq and timber roads preserved in a swamp in Glastonbury, England. The road builders of the late 1800s depended solely on stone, gravel and sand for construction. Water would be used as a binder to give some unity to the road surface.

Our Time at Susan B Anthony Center

One of the things we enjoy most, is giving back to our community. Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center is a great non-profit in South Florida. Giving in-house rehabilitation to mothers with addictions and their children. We were happy to donate our time and material in building a concrete walk way for the ladies at Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center. Below are some photos of our project.

Asphalt Tidbits

The story of asphalt begins thousands of years before the founding of the United States. Asphalt occurs naturally in both asphalt lakes and in rock asphalt (a mixture of sand, limestone and asphalt). The ancient Mesopotamians used it to waterproof temple baths and water tanks. The Phoenicians caulked the seams of their merchant ships with asphalt. In the days of the Pharaohs, Egyptians used the material as mortar for rocks laid along the banks of the Nile to prevent erosion, and the infant Moses' basket was waterproofed with asphalt.

ASP Welcomes Gordon Young as new Sales Manager

Fort Lauderdale – Gordon Young has been hired as the new Sales Manager of Atlantic Southern Paving and Sealcoating, a Florida based pavement contractor specializing in parking lot maintenance and construction nationwide.

“We’re very excited to have Gordon on our team,” states Director of Operations Terry Smith.  “He has managed several people and projects, communicated with customers to ensure their needs are met, and has trained employees to ensure highest quality of service and satisfaction is met between the company and consumer”, says, Smith.  “He is a great fit for Atlantic Southern Paving.” Gordon is no stranger to sales and customer service.  Previously, Gordon worked as an Account Executive with a national company where he was responsible for business development for multiple territories.  Gordon also has financial experience as a Branch Manager, and Loan Specialist.

We Welcome Jay G. Brito as Sales Consultant
