At a recent luncheon that I attended, I was asked why Atlantic Southern Paving has had such exponential revenue growth over the last 3 years. With very little thought, I responded, "because our upper management excels in putting the right people in place to do the job." That may sound like a canned answer but it is true. We make a point in the interview process to not only make sure the applicant is qualified, but also they have the right personality and drive that will mesh with the current staff. Employee Spotlight: Johnny Jackson

Atlantic Southern Paving and Sealcoating would like to spotlight our Production Manager, Johnny Jackson. Johnny started at Atlantic Southern Paving in May of 2006 as a CDL Driver/Skid Steer Operator.  It was apparent early on that Johnny was smart, dedicated, and a true leader; and was quickly promoted to Sealcoating Superintendent.

Currently Johnny is the Production Manager for Atlantic Southern Paving and oversees all of our crews, five Project Managers and the 700+ jobs that Atlantic Southern Paving & Sealcoating performs each year. Johnny says the thing that makes the job the most worthwhile is the opportunity for employment Atlantic Southern Paving gives to so many people who would otherwise have a difficult time providing for their families.  He also feels the Team concept throughout the entire company and enjoys the many company perks Atlantic Southern Paving has to offer.

When Johnny is not at work, you can find him exercising, either at the gym or jogging to help clear his mind and stay healthy.  He is also a big Duck Dynasty fan!  We are lucky to have Johnny on our team!

Time for a Recap...

As our third quarter comes to a close, we wanted to take a few moments to acknowledge our numerous accomplishments and thank all of our amazing employees and clients for helping to make this success come to fruition. Beginning in May, Atlantic Southern Paving and Sealcoating (ASP) was honored to make The South Florida Business Journal’s (SFBJ) “2013 List of 50 Fastest Growing Companies.” To be part of such a prestigious list is a testament to how hard our employees worked in the previous year. In the same month, the SFBJ chose our very own Michael J. Curry Jr. to be named “Top 40 Under 40 for South Florida,” for his vast accomplishments both professionally and within the community.  From the there the accolades kept coming!

Later in June, we did it again by making the SFBJ's list of “Top 100 Private Companies.” Once again this is a strong testament to our dedicated employees and wonderful clients! The following month, Pavement Maintenance and Reconstruction Magazine recognized ASP as one of the “Top 50 Pavement, Sealcoating and Asphalt Repair Contractors” in the USA.

And to close out all of these great achievements, we were honored in August in Inc 5000's “Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies in America.” We also placed in the top 100 companies in the Miami Metro Area.

It has been a great year for ASP, not just seeing all of our hard work pay off, but realizing others are taking notice! We are excited to see what the next quarter and 2014, will bring!  Stay Tuned!

On Thursday, May 31^st, business leaders from the tri-county area gathered for the unveiling of the South Florida Business Journal’s Fast 50 Event. It honored the 50 Fastest Growing Companies in South Florida based on revenue growth over the past two years.  Atlantic Southern Paving and Sealcoating placed 29^th at the event. We want to send a big thank you to everyone for their hard work in helping us achieve such an award!

Talk About a Collapsed Market

YES, THIS IS A 13 STORY BUILDING LYING ON THE GROUND! Anybody who bought a condo here sure has a problem.

(1) An underground garage was being dug on the south side, to a depth of 4.6 meters.
(2) The excavated dirt was being piled up on the north side, to a height of 10 meters.
(3) The building experienced uneven lateral pressure from south and north.
(4) This resulted in a lateral pressure of 3,000 tons, which was greater than what the pilings could tolerate. Thus the building toppled over in the southerly direction.

First, the apartment building was constructed.

Then the plan called for an underground garage to be dug out.  

The excavated soil was piled up on the other side of the building.

*Heavy rains resulted in water seeping into the ground.*

The building began to tilt & shift. The "hollow" concrete pilings were snapped due to the uneven lateral pressures.

And thus was born the eighth wonder of the world. 

If the buildings were closer together it would have resulted in a domino effect.

They built 13 stories on grade, with no basement, and tied it all down to hollow pilings with no re-bar. 

A re-bar (short for reinforcing bar), also known as reinforcing steel, reinforcement steel, re-rod, a deformed bar, reo, or reo bar, is a common steel bar, and is commonly used as a tensioning device in reinforced concrete and reinforced masonry structures holding the concrete in compression. It is usually in the form of carbon steel bars or wires, and the surfaces may be deformed for a better bond with the concrete.

While the Chinese construction company may have overlooked a few things, rest assured you are in great hands with Atlantic Southern Construction. We go over plans meticulous and pay great attention to detail... Not to mention we are especially fond of re-bar to avoid falls likes these!
